The first page from the Gospel of Mark from the Book of Durrow c.650 AD. This is a famous monk’s mistake as it should start as “Initium”. The original was written on Iona or perhaps Lindisfarne and was moved to Durrow to protect from Viking raids.

Hywel the Good was King of Wales from 942 to 950 AD after consolidating most of present day Wales except the South East. He is best known for codifying Welsh Law.
